Chemo Care Love Packages

Chemotherapy is an emotional and uncomfortable experience for cancer warriors. We saw this first-hand and wanted to do something to provide comfort. In 2015, the idea of Chemo Care Love Packages came to fruition.

It is a community initiative in which we provide a bag full of gifts to patients with items such as blankets, satin pillowcases, head turbans, journals, gripped socks, gift cards, and more to show that we see them and care.

Each item selected is intentional, and we are consistently adding to this list.

Blankets: To provide warmth for patients. Chemotherapy can cause low body temperature.

Satin Pillowcases & Head Turbans: Chemotherapy causes severe hair loss. We chose these items to protect their head.

Journals & Puzzle Books: Distracting the mind with something positive and creative is always refreshing. These activities help keep patients calm.

Gripped Socks: Chemotherapy can weaken the muscles, making it harder for patients to maintain their balance while walking. Gripped socks help keep them safe by preventing slips on smooth hospital floors.

Gift Cards: Gift cards come in handy more than you know. There are days when a patient is too exhausted to cook or needs supplies delivered. Gift cards like Grubhub and Amazon can lighten that load.

Tea & Queasy Drops: Nausea is one of the main side effects of treatment. Teas such as ginger and peppermint, as well as queasy drops, provide ease.

Chemo Port Pillows: For patients who have to drive themselves to treatment, attaching a chemo port pillow to the seatbelt will offer the comfort they didn’t know they needed.

Lip Balm: Damage to the salivary glands can lead to dry lips. Using a high-quality lip balm can help restore moisture and provide relief.

We have previously worked with Brookdale Hospital and Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. As of 2024, we have expanded to Columbia, South Carolina, and worked with South Carolina Oncology, the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and Lexington Health Medical Foundation.
